UBS is considering relocating its headquarters abroad – the news agency Bloomberg recently caused a stir with this report. The background to this is that the Swiss Federal Department of Finance is considering imposing an additional capital buffer of CHF 25 billion on the country’s largest bank following the takeover of Credit Suisse. Even if the company denies this, the last word has probably not yet been spoken. What is certain, however, is that UBS has recently slipped down several levels on the stock exchange. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fifth-largest SMI member was dealt a blow less by the rumors of an exodus than by the tariff hammer from the USA. President Donald Trump’s trade policy tirades triggered a global stock market quake that hit the banking sector particularly hard. UBS’s market capitalization shrank by more than a fifth within three trading days. Selling pressure eased in the CHF 21 range. For good reason: the UBS share has solid support here. On the one hand, a horizontal resistance with roots dating back to 2023 held up the SMI share. Additional support was provided by a longer-term upward trend. Fundamentally, the sell-off in bank shares in general and UBS in particular has a lot to do with fears of a global recession. Should the escalating trade conflict actually stall the economic engine, financial institutions would have to reckon with higher loan defaults and falling earnings. Stricter capital requirements in the domestic market could be even more difficult for UBS to cope with in such an environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s not that far yet. The forecast raised by CEO Sergio Ermotti at the beginning of February still applies. He wants to improve the adjusted return on equity by 130 basis points to around 10% in the current year. He had previously targeted a mid to high single-digit percentage. How Ermotti assesses the prospects after the recent stock market upheaval could become clear today. The UBS Annual General Meeting begins at 10.30 a.m. at the Lucerne Exhibition Center. Among other things, the dividend proposal for 2024 will be put to the vote. The payout is to be increased by almost 29% to USD 0.90 per share. The share buyback will also be a topic at the Annual General Meeting. In the first half of 2025 alone, UBS intends to make USD 1 billion available for this purpose. Depending on the capital requirements of the Swiss Confederation, up to USD 2 billion could be added by the end of the year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a Mini-Future long, traders can bet that the UBS share will rise again after the Annual General Meeting. The product traded by BNP Paribas on Swiss DOTS (ISIN CH1269331679<\/a><\/strong>) participates with a leverage of 5.44 in rising prices. At CHF 18.35, the stop loss is 17.6% below the price of the underlying. Caution: If the UBS share takes the elevator down again, there is a risk of disproportionately high losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
