CapEx isn\u2019t just chips, much of the spending is on long-lived assets like buildings and power. Chips, even with short cycles, are depreciated sensibly and repurposed for lighter workloads. Multi-year contracts and efficiency gains in models help smooth costs and lift margins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Risks include competitive pricing, weaker demand, power constraints, regulation, or faster chip obsolescence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On financing, the ecosystem is interconnected. Clouds, chipmakers, and model developers often fund and sell to each other. But the big builds are backed by strong internal cash flows and investment-grade debt. Higher leverage sits at the edges, for instance, GPU leasing vehicles and niche operators, rather than on big tech balance sheets. Safeguards include phased buildouts, long-term commitments, and ring-fenced projects. Older hardware can be redeployed or resold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Systemic risk looks limited. Most leverage is in private credit rather than the traditional financial system. If AI demand disappoints, stress would most likely hit smaller players first as big platforms have large, diversified revenue streams and liquidity to absorb shocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
