With Quantinuum, a subsidiary of Honeywell which is regarded as one of the most technologically ambitious names in the industry. The planned Nasdaq IPO under the abbreviation QNT is expected to value Quantinuum at up to USD 14.3 billion and raise up to USD 1.46 billion, according to the latest information. For the still young quantum industry, this would be more than just a classic leap onto the trading floor: it would be a price tag for the imagination of an entire sector. This would also benefit D-Wave Quantum. The share has already risen sharply in recent weeks and is trading at around USD 29, just below the psychologically important USD 30 mark.

Roller coaster ride

The tailwind has come at the right time. Quantum computers are seen as one of the next big technology shifts after the cloud, semiconductors and artificial intelligence, but have recently had a difficult time on the stock market. Many shares are now trading at a fraction of what they would have cost in the fall of 2025. The market is still in an early commercialization phase, where profits are a long way off. However, the range of applications is broad: optimization problems in logistics and industry, materials research, financial models, cryptography and pharmaceutical development are among the great fields of hope. The hope is that an investable market will gradually emerge from years of basic research. The Quantinuum IPO is likely to serve as a litmus test: If it makes a strong debut, this could further support the valuations of listed quantum stocks.

Future strategy

D-Wave plays a special role in this race. The company specialized in quantum annealing at an early stage. This technology is designed in particular for optimization tasks and is already being used in hybrid quantum-classical applications. This is precisely where the appeal lies: D-Wave not only has a long-term vision, but also has concrete commercial use cases. At the same time, the company is expanding its technological base. D-Wave recently presented a roadmap for gate model systems and is aiming for systems with 100 logical qubits and more than one million operations by 2032. In doing so, the Group aims to broaden its base and increase the addressable market.

Increasing demand

Operationally, however, development remains characterized by high investments and low sales. In the first quarter of 2026, D-Wave generated sales of USD 2.9 million, while incoming orders were much more spectacular: Bookings jumped to USD 33.4 million, up 1,994% on the previous year’s figure. At the same time, the company remained in the red. The net loss amounted to USD 18.4 million, while cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities stood at USD 588.4 million at the end of the quarter. This gives D-Wave sufficient financial leeway to press ahead with research, sales and product development.

For risk-tolerant investors, D-Wave is therefore a classic future stock: high fantasy, high volatility, but also a business model that must increasingly gain substance. The decisive factor will be whether pilot projects and bookings result in noticeable sales growth in the coming quarters. In addition to the Quantinuum IPO, government funding programs, the growing demand for high-performance computing and the strategic search for Quantum solutions by major industrial customers could also provide a tailwind.

Investment solutions

The analysts are also positive: the current vote is “buy”, the consensus price target is USD 35 and therefore around a fifth above the current price. In chart terms, the share is now focusing on the USD 30 zone. This is where the steep upward trend was recently halted. A sustained breakout above this level could unleash new momentum. Risk-conscious investors can use the call warrant QBTYGZ from ZKB to place a long bet. The product has a leverage of 3.6 and thus benefits disproportionately from rising prices of the underlying. The strike is USD 36 and thus slightly above the average price target. The warrant is “out of the money”.

Conservative investors can consider the recently issued Barrier Reverse Convertible RQBABV from Bank Vontobel. The product offers the prospect of a return of 14.8% p.a. – even in a sideways trend. The barrier is at USD 10.61, which corresponds to a buffer of 63.6%.

Quantinuum’s upcoming IPO is putting quantum computers back in the investor spotlight.
