“Trading idea”: Meta Platforms – Back in the Limelight Again

The social media giant has launched an AI agent. “Muse” triggered a buying spree on Wall Street. Meta now needs to clear a significant barrier.

On 24 September 2026, US President Donald Trump hosted a state banquet for Chinese leader Xi. Alongside politicians from the two superpowers, numerous business representatives attended the event at the White House. Amongst them was Mark Zuckerberg. The CEO of Meta Platforms had every reason to be in high spirits. On the day of the banquet, the market capitalisation of the company he once founded as Facebook rose by 4.5%. This put the social media giant firmly back in the limelight.

Last year, Meta shares had gradually faded from view. After reaching an all-time high of just under USD 800 in mid-August 2025, the large cap fell by more than a third. Amongst the factors weighing on the title was the debate surrounding the safety and the potential of addiction when using the platforms of Meta. Without admitting wrongdoing, the company recently agreed to a billion-dollar settlement with 29 US states in connection with this issue. Nonetheless, global criticism of the industry giant remains – around 3.6 billion people use the Meta applications Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp every day.

Meta is also facing scepticism from data protection advocates over its AI agent “Muse”. On Wall Street, however, the service launched in early September has generated considerable enthusiasm. Since the launch, Meta shares have gained around a fifth. In the US, “Muse” can be used via an app as well as through the WhatsApp messaging service. The agent can access individual applications used by its users, allowing it to take care of tasks such as sending emails, buying tickets or planning holidays.

Unsurprisingly, “Muse” was a key focus at the latest developer and product conference of the company. At “Meta Connect 2026”, Mark Zuckerberg unveiled, amongst other things, the “Muse Charm”. The small device is equipped with a 5G modem and allows users to carry AI in their pocket. Overall, recent developments show that Meta has arrived in the age of artificial intelligence. The challenge now is to monetise this trend and the new offerings. The next update will come on 27 October 2026, when the company presents its results for the third quarter of 2026.

Meta shares could well break through the horizontal barrier of around USD 780 by then. For now, the title has bounced off this hurdle. After the gains of recent weeks, a period of consolidation would hardly come as a surprise. Traders can use the Knock-out Warrant Call to position themselves for the next move and speculate on an upside breakout. The product currently offers leverage of 4.9. The stop loss is set at USD 582.699, around the level at which Meta was trading in early September. Caution is warranted: should the enthusiasm surrounding “Muse” fade and the shares come under pressure, the Leveraged Product could quickly incur disproportionately large losses.
